
Who we are:
The House of Hope of Washington County, is an adult only peer-run not-for-profit organization funded by the Washington County Behavioral Health Board. We are staffed with Ohio Certified Peer Recovery Supporters meaning our staff has a history of, and in recovery from, mental illness and/or addiction. As a peer-run organization we provide a valuable source of emotional support, encouragement, and practical guidance, based on our own experiences and the principles of peer support. We offer non-clinical support and collaborate with agencies, organizations, and providers.
What is Peer Support?
Peer support is a unique form of support where individuals who have personally experienced mental health issues, addiction, or other life-altering circumstances use their lived experience to provide empathy, understanding, and practical guidance to others going through similar situations. Staff of the House of Hope serve as advocates, role models, and sources of hope for their peers.
Who we serve:
The target demographic for the House of Hope are those in recovery from mental illness and/or addiction. This does not mean that those facing barriers such as physical and/or developmental disabilities do not qualify. In order to utilize the services provided by the House of Hope an individual must have a history of mental illness and/or addiction plus have the ability to function independently as the House of Hope is not a provider service. The House of Hope is not responsible for ensuring provider/guardian needs and/or orders are abided by.
How we operate:
The House of Hope is an adult community center with an open door policy. Members of Washington County are welcome Monday through Friday 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. We can provide transportation at our discretion but if transportation is unavailable through the House of Hope, we may assist with funding through Washington-Morgan Community Action Programs dial-a-ride or public transit at no cost to you or your clients. Our services are FREE to Washington County residents. Although you do not have to be a member to utilize our services, we do ask for a $3.00 membership fee and completion of forms in order to take advantage of house funded trips and costly activities/perks.
Not only are we staffed with Ohio Certified Peer Supporters, we also have staff that specialize in county, state, and nationwide resources. As part of our services, we can assist individuals with accessing, and applying for, needed services and/or programs. Staff at the House of Hope work alongside an individuals established support systems to ensure services do not overlap. If an individual does not have a support system in place we assist in establishing one. The House of Hope accepts referrals as well as refers out to agencies based on the person(s) needs and comfort level.
The House of Hope is not a structured care facility. We are strictly independent persons only which means individuals can come and go as they please. Although we do offer activities and groups, participation is optional. House of Hope staff is not responsible for ensuring dietary, physical health restrictions, or provider restrictions are met. A person can not be in active addiction or mentally unstable when utilizing our building. If a person is found to be in crisis, staff will assist with ensuring safety, provide support, but then refer out to potential services so that we may ensure they obtain the proper care for their conditions.
The House of Hope welcomes all city and county supports to utilize our building to meet their clients needs such as one-on-one counseling and/or case management. We have adequate space so that you may have privacy.
Community Service
The House of Hope is a registered not for profit organization that accepts citizens of the community, in need of community service hours, to perform tasks in order to earn documented hours. We are approved through both adult and juvenile courts as an organization to sign off on completed hours. These duties may include cleaning inside and outside of the facility, assisting with maintenance and organization, lifting, etc. Minors are prohibited to perform community service during regular business times and must be supervised at all times outside of business hours.
Volunteers
The House of Hope accepts volunteers, age 18 an older, to visit, and assist with, the building and program. Most volunteers are not required to perform service duties therefor their participation is not enforced. Volunteers are open to assist with a multitude of tasks such as light cleaning, socializing, activities, etc. at their willingness.

We understand the many barriers that come with Mental illness. We are here for you! Call us anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for peer support, resource information and assistance with accessing services. Just ask to speak to one of our Peer Support Specialists.
