National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Through education, advocacy, support, and public awareness, NAMI works to reduce stigma and ensure that no one has to navigate mental health challenges alone.

We are proud to serve as the new NAMI affiliate for Washington County. Our goal is to build a strong, accessible hub of support throughout the county—one that meets people where they are and offers multiple opportunities to connect. To achieve this, we are working to host NAMI meetings in various locations across the county, scheduled at different times and days of the week to increase accessibility for individuals, families, and caregivers.

Our NAMI Programs & Vision

As the Washington County NAMI affiliate, we are actively developing and expanding the following programs:

  • NAMI Connections – A peer-to-peer support group for adults living with mental health conditions. This group is led by trained facilitators with lived experience and focuses on shared understanding, hope, and recovery.
  • NAMI Family Support Group – A supportive, confidential space for family members, friends, and caregivers of individuals with mental health challenges to connect, share experiences, and gain encouragement.
  • NAMI Homefront (planned expansion) – A program designed to support veterans, service members, and their families as they navigate the unique mental health challenges related to military service.
  • NAMI Ending the Silence (planned expansion) – An educational program aimed at youth, families, and school communities to promote early awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health.
  • Additional NAMI education and support programs – As our affiliate grows, we plan to bring more NAMI offerings to Washington County based on community needs.

Our Commitment

Our mission as a NAMI affiliate is to create a connected network of support across Washington County, ensuring that individuals and families impacted by mental illness have access to education, peer support, and community—no matter where they live or what their schedule looks like. We are committed to fostering hope, empowerment, and understanding while building a countywide culture of compassion and mental health awareness.
