I started my recovery journey in 2019 when I learned of the benefits of peer support and had the privilege of participating in a training that allowed me to become certified. I have struggled with mental illness for most of my life and although I was on the right path of managing my mental health, I was not fully aware of the possibilities of recovery. It was during this time that an opportunity arose and I began working as a volunteer through AmeriCorps. At this time, I also discovered my passion for resources. My heart went towards spreading awareness on the many services available to assist those in or seeking recovery. I began fulfilling service hours for the House of Hope in 2019. By the time my term was up in late 2020, I was offered a position as the Peer Recovery Supporter of  the House of Hope. At the same time, I was also offered a temporary position through Buckeye Hills Regional Council as the Opioid Resource Navigator where I had the pleasure of managing a resource website covering four Ohio counties. My temporary position became less temporary and for four years I worked both positions. I officially became Assistant Director of the House of Hope in late 2022. My term as the Opioid Resource Navigator for Buckeye Hills Regional Council was fulfilled in 2023 and I began a new position in our community that has allowed me to continue to spread awareness and fight stigma. I currently work for both the House of Hope and the Community Resource Center/Day Shelter as well as continue to manage a resource website http://www.MyRecoveryLink.org. I have been blessed with the opportunity to form relationships with agencies and community members. I am currently living my dream of bridging gaps and aiding others in overcoming the many obstacles life throws at us and helping them to achieve the freedom of recovery.

I have struggled with addiction my entire life. In 2020 I decided to start my recovery journey by moving to Marietta from Texas where I entered a woman’s treatment center. Upon completion of the treatment program, I decided to stay in Marietta and start a new life. I lived in a sober living home until I was able to get on my feet. I worked on managing my sobriety while establishing a home. When I was ready to enter the workforce, I applied for a position at the House of Hope as their cook. I have now been working at the House of Hope since June of 2021. This was the first job I’ve had in over 20 years. I recently accepted the position of Community Health Worker for the House of Hope as well which will allow me to work closely with members to help them overcome barriers. Being employed here at the House of Hope has helped me not only maintain recovery but has inspired me to help others achieve the same freedom that I’ve gained over the years. I have been so inspired by the House of Hope staff, members, and mission, that I have decided to become an Ohio Certified Peer Supporter and Certified Community Health Worker. My hope is to continue to better myself.

Working at the House of Hope has allowed me to grow in my recovery!

Senior Training

House Assistant

I began working with the House of Hope in 2022. I am employed through a senior training program and have been blessed with the opportunity to serve my time working at the House of Hope. I am in long-term recovery from substance and have enjoyed providing support to the members of the House of Hope. I spend my days assisting staff with their duties while also interacting with members through conversation and by doing activities with them.

Working with the House of Hope is something I enjoy doing and it has helped me manage my recovery by being around, and working with, people who have also experienced their own recovery struggles and journeys.
